Regulations, guidelines & complaints

Studying comes with regulations and guidelines. The regulations and guidelines listed here apply to all Summa students. There is also a complaints form, should you want to file a complaint.

 

Binding study advice regulation

If there is insufficient progress in your study progress, the school can start a process in which you will receive study advice. The school attaches agreements to this advice that are recorded in writing.

If you started your study program before 8/1/2018, this binding study advice regulation (pdf) applies.
If you started your study program on or after 8/1/2018, this binding study advice regulation (pdf) applies. 

 

Complaints procedures

What can you do when you have a complaint? Summa College has several complaints procedures in place. We will inform you below which type of complaint can be submitted to whom. 

Do you want to submit a complaint? Then it is important to first read how it works at Summa College in  this overview. You can use the complaints form to submit a formal complaint, present an objection, or file an appeal against a decision. The form is in Dutch, but you can fill it out in English.

In case you need advice on choosing the right procedure, or if you need help to fill out the complaints form, you can contact the study advisors (+31 (0)40 269 4444, studiekeuze@summacollege.nl, 10 Sterrenlaan, Eindhoven) or your career counsellor.

All complaints will be handled confidentially. Submitting a complaint will never affect the supervision or assessment of your study. 

 

Types of complaints

Every day, Summa College does its utmost to give you the opportunity to get the most out of yourself. There is, however, always a possibility that you are dissatisfied with something concerning school. Since we want to improve our services, we want you to inform us whenever there is something you are not satisfied with.

Complaints about undesirable behavior

To report complaints concerning social safety, (sexual) harassment, discrimination, aggression and violence, you can contact your school’s confidential counsellor. They can help you and, if needed, refer you.

Complaints about serious wrongdoing

The so-called whistleblowing scheme allows you to report suspected wrongdoing within Summa College in a protected manner.

The regulation is meant for social situations in which the environment, safety or health of people and/or organizations are endangered. This regulation also enables you to report cases of criminal offence, violation of the law or unethical behavior.

Complaints about binding study advice

Halfway through their school year, every student receives a binding study advice. If you do not agree with your binding study advice, you can file an appeal to the external Examination Appeals Board within two weeks, using the form on the left side of this page. Following a hearing, this Board will issue its decision within 20 working days.

Complaints about exams

If you do not agree with a decision from the Examination Board, you can present an objection to the Examination Board within ten school days, using the form on the left side of this page. The Examination Board will issue a decision on the objection within 10 school days. If you disagree with this decision, you can file an appeal to the external Examination Appeals Board within ten school days, using the form on the left side of this page. Following a hearing, the Examination Appeals Board will issue its decision within 20 working days.

Other complaints

We find it important that you first talk to the person within Summa College who is directly involved in the situation in question. If you cannot work it out together, you can file your report to the director of your school, using the form on the left side of this page. He will deal with your report within 10 school days. 

In case you are not satisfied with the handling of your report, you can submit a formal complaint to the Complaints Committee, using the form on the left side of this page. The Complaints Committee will deal with your complaint within 14 weeks.

Conditions of the Education Agreement

As a student, you must sign an education contract before starting a course. This contains the rights and obligations of you as a student and of the Summa College.

If you are 18 years or older, you can sign yourself. If you are not yet 18 years of age, your legal representative must also sign the agreement. The Education Agreement Terms and Conditions apply to the education agreement.

Examination Appeals Board 

If you have a complaint about exams and everything related to it, you can file a complaint with the exam committee of your school. If this does not lead to a desired solution, you can turn to the Appeals Appeals Committee. He or she decides on the decisions of the Board of Examiners or of the examiners.

General exam requirements Dutch, English and math

Every year, the Ministry of Education draws up the general (generic) requirements for the subjects Dutch, arithmetic and English. These requirements are not the same for all courses and years. In this table you (Dutch) can find out which requirements apply to you per level, duration of your study program and academic year.

 

Parking policy

Rules apply to all parking lots of the Summa schools. If you do not comply with this, measures will be taken. For example, your bike can be moved or chained, your car can even be towed at your expense. Read the parking policy (pdf).

 

Privacy statement

Summa College has rules on dealing with student privacy. This protects the privacy of students against misuse and against processing incorrect data. The privacy regulations apply to all personal data of students that Summa College processes.

Student charter

The most important rights and obligations of students are set out in the student charter. It also describes what the student can expect from Summa College. The statute applies to all students, within all schools of the Summa College. In addition, each school can set its own rules, insofar as these fall within the framework of the student statute. There is also a Student Status Disputes Committee, which states how you can appeal against a decision.

Disputes Committee Student Charter

Sometimes a conflict arises between a student and a director of a school about the application of the student statute. The Regulations for the Disputes Committee for Student Statutes describe how you can appeal against a decision.

The committee only deals with disputes that have been decided at the school by the highest authority or on behalf of the director. The committee will not deal with disputes for which there are other disputes or objections.

Student fees scheme

The Student Fees Scheme provides a description of procedures and amounts with regard to statutory tuition fees (full-time) and course fees (BBL and full-time part-time). Payments to school are made via iDEAL and by means of so-called e-invoices: accounts via e-mail.

Terms and conditions for the Professional Practice Agreement

As a student, you must sign a Professional Practice Agreement before starting a Professional Practice. This contains the rights and obligations of you as a student and of the Summa College.

If you are 18 years or older, you can sign yourself. If you are not yet 18 years of age, your legal representative must also sign the agreement.

Use of ICT resources

As soon as you come to study with us, you will receive a personal account, with which you have access to a number of ICT facilities, such as the digital learning environment, roc mail, (wireless) internet and online study results. A number of rules of conduct and usage apply to use, which are laid down in an ICT regulation (pdf).
